Harry Potter and the PRB.

Journal Entry: Mon Aug 24, 2009, 6:53 AM

  • Listening to: Howard Jones - Things Can Only Get Better.
  • Watching: Brideshead Revisited, the amazing 80s one.
I was supposed to be starting my new job today. Alas my recruitment agency is a complete and utter bag of shit and got everything wrong, so here I am sat writing on Deviantart. Yippeeeee.

:boo:

ANYWAY. If you were wondering, the PRB stands for the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, as anybody who has been watching DESPERATE ROMANTICS will know. Now, I loved the PRB before they were cool and in the depths of my gallery there is a whole heap of crap inspired by them. And now they have thier own series! DANG, I'm in the mood to do some casual film and television reviewing, of the extra enthusiastic kind!

OH MY, IT'S LIKE ALL MY BIRTHDAYS AND CHRISTMAS ROLLED INTO ONE.

What's that BBC? Pretty artists in colourful waistcoats, talking about how beautiful redheads are? No, think I'll give that a miss...

Yeees. Well it's very nice, not exactly historically accurate (WHERE IS FORD MADOX BROWN?) and rather like a soft porn film with paintings, but it's fun and colourful and has a catchy themetune, horaay! Plus it fills in all the scandals and personalities that the history books just refer to shamefully. Better than The Tudors anyway, that looks SHITE.

AND I WENT TO SEE HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE.

:wow: :wow: :wow:

Now a lot of people don't like this film because they think the most important issue in filmaking is to STICK EXACTLY TO J.K. ROWLING'S SACRED PLOT. Because films like The Shining, Bram Stoker's Dracula and Lord Of The Rings never EVER changed anything from the books they were based on. Hmm? I thought it was a very good film despite the changes, probably one of the best in terms of acting and the things that actually matter in the movies. Just another two films to go now, I'm counting down the days I really am.

Draco was definately shagging that vanishing cabinet.

Not that I'm saying it's perfect, obviously nothing beats curling up with a HP book and there were some pretty straaange directorial choices. THE CORNFIELD SCENE, JUST WHY? More getting funky with the Pensieve would have been nice! Ginny's acting is akin to some trees I have met and I still can't see Gambon as Dumbledore. Blah blah, blah blah blah oh I'm just happy it's out already and Snape looks practically strokable.

Well yes, reviews aside I've been having an incredibly laid back summer, lots of lazing around, the occasional night out on the piss with friends and holidays to Wales, lovely! Even more laid back now that my job has vanished, booo.

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TOM. He's the best.

Megan and Sadie are the most glorious of these, it's great seeing them again, not half as good as seeing them every day though, waaah.

Anyone who remembers :iconalkalinedio:, he just got engaged! XD

Really really old.

Hello there. I havn't been on here much because my university workload has been horrific. Been busy doing video, Super 8mm film and stop motion animation. And shit. Just about finished now though, back to job hunting, doesn't time fly. I have aged a year.

20. Doesn't that sound fucking old. Practically dead. Anyway.

GUESS WHERE I WENT.

Rome, yes. Great ice cream. Not so great a policy on vandalism, graffiti and dirt. Google 'The Capuchin Crypt' if you want to see the best thing in Rome without going there, that place actually made my JAW DROP.

Also went to Bearded Theory festival in Derbyshire, with my fella. There was a small tornado and as a result the main stage looked like this.

WHOOPS.

What else have I been doing? Not that much to be blatently honest, although there was a really good exhibition on in White Cube, London. Also visited Camden Market for the first time ever, what a dream, I'm going back there just before I move into MY NEW HOUSE. Will be living in a charming 4-bed in the heart of Nottingham, what a big city yuppie I am.

Art is going well at the moment, have made a hefty bunch of films that I'll try to upload from DVD. COAL PEOPLE, SHINY PEOPLE, OVER EAGER, MY SON, CAMILLA and MAGIC ROUNDABOUT may all see the light of day at some point.

And I might do some bloody DRAWING over the holidays too.

UNIVERSITY! CHRISTMAS! DAVID LYNCH!

Journal Entry: Tue Dec 30, 2008, 9:28 AM

  • Reading: Lost Girls, what a big pervert I am.
  • Watching: Twin Peaks.
  • Playing: Spore.

WOWEEEEE Natalie, how was your first term at university? It was like catching everyone's cold and putting on a stone in weight. I now do Fine Art like, all the time. Huh huh huh. Don't ask me to define Fine Art, it's like defining fluff. It's also incredibly difficult to put on deviantART.

:work:

The course is brilliant, we meet real artists, have heated critical discussions and are pretty much left to do WHATEVER WE WANT. I'm doing voyerism, literally. Of course people know I'm taking photos and filming them. Of course of course. Very, very happy with how my work is going, want to start using proper film soon; I have bought an ancient Super 8 camera to play with. 20 quid for 3 minutes of film, credit crunch, what credit crunch? Sickening I know, but I better make the most of these years while I still have a stonking great loan.

Lets face it, after I graduate I'm going to starve. In the meantime I am having a bloody good time, seeing new art and going to all the gallery openings, nobbing with all the Fine Art nobs, trying to define pretentious.

Here I am with one of my works, I call it 'Metal Box', because it's a metal box.

Having a bit of time on my hands, I decided to WATCH THE BBC'S VERSION OF 'GORMENGHAST'. Sarrin, cover your eyes, I am very sorry. I know I'm a bit biased having read the books about 78634125381383 times, but I felt like ripping my own brain out whilst watching. It was a technicolour nightmare, the script was like 'Gormenghast, for stupid people.' and JRM plays Steerpike with as much icy subtlety as a big brick of ham. Just embarassing really. One day, even if it's made on the budget of a packet of crisps, I will film my own version of Gormenghast. Promise.

OR DAVID LYNCH COULD DO IT. YEEEEEEES.

What do you think Coop? I think I'll have more coffee.

I have been watching his cult 90's telly series 'Twin Peaks' for so long now that it's embedded in my brain. When I look in the mirror I see BOB, I am that addicted. Ho ho ho, that was an in-joke, go and watch it; you too will know the joy of backwards speaking, dancing dwarves and owls that are not what they seem. Lynch is my new favourite, favourite director at the minute, I want to BE him for frick's sake. Hey, maybe I'm on the way, he started his career doing weird Fine Art videos too. Ooooo. Please have a look at his films; the darkest, nastiest corners of your brain will thank you forever and ever and ever. But don't watch 'Eraserhead' when your alone, it does strange things to your state of conciousness.

For Christmas I got some exciting blue boots, Lush products, a whole shelf's worth of books and lots of Hitchcock. Amongst the books I got the infamous Alan Moore's 'Lost Girls', which is 10% graphic novel and 90% porrrrn. Think The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland only with the charachters shamelessly bonking eachother, and you have some idea of what it's like. Lovely Tom has been a lovely and bought me SPORE, which I love, even though I feel like crying if I accidentally extinct a species. IT'S NOT EVEN REEEAL!

If that is not a good enough update on my life, below is a link of me singing my favourite song. Low by Flo Rider. You can see the enjoyment in my face.

APPLE BOTTOM JEANS AND THOSE BOOTS WITH THE FURRRR.

Goodbye, I will try to upload more things soon, it could be quite a mixture. I have photography, Gormenghast fanart and CD cover illustrations all on the way, so stay tuned. Although DA has absolutely NO relation to what's going on in the real Art World, I still like it here.

I've finally got a job, eeeeee. After 19 years.

Now I work in an recruitment agency, which is like a real job only with less respect and commitment. So far I've been a temp at waitressing and warehouse packing, yippee. I wish I'd stayed at home, it's rubbish. But I'm slightly richer now.

BAD THINGS ABOUT HAVING A JOB
-weddings and wedding guests
-burns
-the constant fear of dropping food over someone's lap/head/wedding dress
-putting small boxes into bigger boxes, and nobody knows why
-walking through leftover food sludge
-the leprosy, I had beautiful hands and now look at them
-the exhaustion
-being stuck in a warehouse full of men's shoes, which are really boring
-everything

GOOD THINGS ABOUT HAVING A JOB
-THE MONEY
-I got to dress like a waitress and work in a nice house

But won't be doing it much longer! University soon! I am terrified. Next time I write on here I'll probably be living off beans on toast. Hopefully I will meet a bunch of crazy fine artists and we'll start a revolution.

Went on my hols a while ago too, and I went HERE!

Artist Damien Hirst's trendy restaurant, it was in the Devon seaside town we stayed in. Ooo la la. We could afford a few glasses of wine and an oyster, and that was all. I hope that one day I'm as disgustingly rich as him. It rained the entire week, what the fucking fuck is wrong with the weather? Ate my own body weight in fudge.

I also went to Wales to meet my better half's family, we went camping. Well, we stayed in a tent on the garden. Had the most brilliant boat race, my boat got lost though. It was an egg.

Read Mr Pye, it's a really good book. Managed to get the DVD from Sebastian Peake too, but I was almost more excited by the fact I have a handwritten note from MERVYN PEAKE's son. WOOHOO! I might get it framed.

:D

That is pretty much everything I've been doing, although I am hungover, half asleep and have probably forgotten all the interesting details.

WHY HELLOOO THAR.

Havn't updated anything on DA for months, I am sorry! It's not because I've been busy, it's because I am lazy and a big crap. I've now finished my course (with a Merit, woo) and have been looking for a job for the last couple of weeks.

No luck though, as I am actually qualified for nothing! Who would have thought artists would be out of work eh?

Last month was the FINAL SHOW, which was exhausting but strangely rewarding. My final piece (a film about fear) terrified a few small children, so that made the long, hard slog of making it all worthwhile. Last time I wrote on here I promised to upload all my films, and I have! On YouTube... Eventually I will upload them all onto DA, but gradually as I can't make any more until October. Promise.

I get the feeling my parents don't think film is a proper art form, they keep hinting that they want me to 'do paintings'. I think they are worried I will starve, if I don't make solid work that I can put a price tag on.

They are probably right, my films are hideous, but it's not like I'm going to forget how to paint.

I'm moving to Nottingham in October, living in university halls, next to a brewery! Can't describe how terrified I am! Hooray! Hopefully the nightlife will rock my socks off, but won't half miss going down Mansfield with these guys.

glorious us
(contrary to my expression, I really enjoy our nights out)

For my 19th birthday, luverly Tom got me a TATTOO! I feel like a real woman now. It's ivy leaves on the top of my arm, reminds me of my favourite things: green, nature, old buildings and Gormenghast. It's a blast.

If you can't guess, I have started reading Mervyn Peake's 'Titus Groan' again! HOOOWWWAAHH! I bloody love it, it's like coming home. If home was a huge decaying castle, filled with ugly mad people. I'm doing some fanart, because when I read the Gormenghast trilogy it sends me a bit strange. And I can't believe what a prat I am for missing THIS.

(Fuchsia's loving it)

A David Glass Ensemble theatre production, sigh. And this all-girls one looks insane, just CLICK the link and look at the madness! Just shows you what you miss when you don't keep tabs on your interests. Baww.

:tears:

Got a new subscription, but Version 6 of DA is the bane of my life. WHY YOU NO WORK? Oh, it's because your crap.
